I like classic looks, they're so universal, who doesn't there is something so elegant about that look. Bringing back the styles of these three decades like they do with couture would be so refreshing and who knows maybe the next generation will think it's new.
I wanted to post a how to get these styles because once you see how easy it is to get these styles I'm sure you'll give it a try just once. I want to break it down by hairstyles as well as length and texture of hair because lets get real some hair accessories will not work for all hair types.
1920's
Now the 1920's style is incredibly simple if you're a dare devil, the 20's is when the "bob" was created it was uncommon for women to chop their hair off and considered very racy but by the end of the decade it became socially acceptable. There are three different types of "bobs" that you can have but the most common is the "straight bob". You'll recognize it as the "flapper" hairstyle, which was mostly straight but can also incorporate waves for texture. As you can tell from below, Louise Brooks was best known for the "bob" hairstyle and now modern day Rihanna sporting the same look, I love how fashion comes full circle.

Then & Now

It's really easy to achieve this look, just tell your hairdresser you want the "bob" which is short in the back and long in the front, or short all the way around. It's easy to style and basically you can just wake up brush and go, or do a little straightening. As you can tell Rihanna's look is the updated modern edgy look, is it too daring to for you?
Great Products to Use:

- Jonathan Product Create Straightening Serum- great to make your bob stay tamed.
- Vidal Sassoon Straightener- a must with this look.
1930's
The 1930's hairstyle is all about waves and curves unlike the 1920's with flat boyish lines. Throughout the 1930's women wore lots of hats tilted to the side of course but as far as the hairstyles during that decade it was all about the feminine curves or curls known as the "finger waves" some are parted in the middle and others on the side. It's an elegant look that would look great for work, a wedding or a night out on the town.
Then & Now

How to Get this Look:
- Start with wet hair, wring out any extra water, and apply gel or setting lotion to the section you're beginning with.
- Pull hair on the crown of your head, or part, back and downward, and place finger over it.
- Pull strand of hair forward, creating a wave pattern and pin.
- Once pinned, remove your finger, and keep repeating the two previous steps until you have all the waves you want.
- End the finger wave with a spit curl, which is a small curl stuck onto the face, usually on and around the forehead and ears, by taking the end of the strand and curling it inward, and basically gluing it in place with gel or hairspray (or spit, hence the name), which is suitable for short hair or bangs.
- Know that if your hair is long, make the finger waves so they slant towards the back of your head, and either twist and pin it up, or take ends, and roll it either under, or over, and pin it all along the nape of the neck.
- Comb preferably one that is straight at the end for parting your hair.
- Hair gel and hairspray.
- A spray bottle of water to keep hair from drying out.
- Bobby pins or clips.
The 1940's had so many different styles to chose from but I chose one that is classic and made famous by actress Veronica Lake, its called the "peek-a-boo" look. Its main characteristics are cascading waves and deep side partings. This styles is scene on the runway as well as the red carpet, it's a classic 1940's style and I believe is well worth the effort.
